I couldn't make myself finish them. Basically, for all the reasons you mentioned--the Mushiness, the Stupid Misunderstandings, and all that Jazz. I feel like Sarah Sundin tries to include a lot of stuff which, although not technically "improper," is not really our (the readers') business--like what the guy thinks about the girl's figure, and all that. Sure, he IS probably thinking that, but since *I* am not a party to this romance *I* don't need to hear about it. You know what I mean? And what somebody once described as the "graphic kissing"--like, seriously, people, keep it to yourselves. That's none of MY business and I don't want to read about it.

I probably would've tried to finish these if I wasn't writing a WWII novel of my own and I was afraid that they would influence me too much in the wrong way :)

Katie Hannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06818413749107653398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6648706431833666913.post-34837725480919527772015-08-10T19:51:55.357-06:002015-08-10T19:51:55.357-06:00Naomi,
Haha, yep. Actually, I was doing it first. ...Naomi,
Haha, yep. Actually, I was doing it first. (How hipster of me. :P) And I was like OOH AMY I GET TO READ THE NEXT SARAH SUNDIN BOOK BEFORE IT OFFICIALLY COMES OUT BECAUSE I'M GOING TO REVIEW IT and she was like, good idea, I'm going to do that too.
So yeah. ;)
Yes, Sarah Sundin... can make it adorable as well as... ew. :P But when one focuses on the adorable, hahaha.

Evelyn,
I haven't read her yet, but I definitely plan to one day!

Miss Dashwood,
...so weird to call you that, haha.
I know, it does, haha.
Whatevs. If your review is a lot like mine I won't be offended. ;D
"The book is practically being asked to be thrown across the room" makes no sense. I said it was practically asking to be thrown across the room, haha. ;P (Anyways, thy laughter is gratifying.)
I really like Mary a lot. But she did have more dumb thoughts in that direction than they usually do. Plenty of other very sensible ones, though. ;)

Natalie,
I haven't read A Memory Between Us...
Hahaha, I'm glad you agree with my sentiments. And I agree with yours. :D

Melodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05676306236172688321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6648706431833666913.post-70574902318983708582015-08-10T18:49:04.272-06:002015-08-10T18:49:04.272-06:00Haha, this was a great review! I have not read thi...Haha, this was a great review! I have not read this book, but it looks good. I'll have to try it next. :)
I've read With Every Letter (which I adored) and A Memory Between Us (which I liked some aspects of a lot, other aspects not at all).

Oh my, yeeeesss. Why, WHY do we have to have such detailed physical descriptions of the two characters Destined For Each Other? It gets so tiring.

I love how you described reading her books: "I get annoyed by a number of things in it but the things I liked outweighs what I didn't, and after a while I find myself wanting to read the next one, which I proceed to do and then go through the exact same things all over again. "

Yes. So true. That's exactly how I felt after reading A Memory Between Us, and yet I find myself wanting to read another of her books. If only she could get the memo that some of her "romance" techniques are...ahem...not romantic At All. :)Nataliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00315660089925645214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6648706431833666913.post-25825232547802782742015-08-10T04:54:01.084-06:002015-08-10T04:54:01.084-06:00Ready. To. Comment. :D
Yeah, that synopsis makes ...Ready. To. Comment. :D

Yeah, that synopsis makes it sound like Jim and Mary are together solving the mystery the whole time. o.O

SNOOOOOOOOOORT about the mutual looks attraction. Yeppppppp. (Heh, I'm realizing now that maybe I should have written MY review before reading yours... I think yours is going to influence mine. A lot. :P)

"The book is practically being asked to be thrown across the room." HAHAHAHA I LOVE YOU.

"Learning shorthand would be way cool" made me laugh out loud for some reason. I agree though. :D

Funny that Mary had more Dumb Girl Thoughts because I've liked her better than any of the other heroines except Allie. Heehee. (I finally decided I actually like Allie better than Mellie. After drawing up mental pro and con lists. ;P)

I liked your bluntly honest review. Boo yeah. PEOPLE, READ THIS BOOK. :DMiss Dashwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15821653607968651548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6648706431833666913.post-84293910798143361972015-08-10T00:34:16.652-06:002015-08-10T00:34:16.652-06:00Sounds Great! =D I have added this to my list of r...Sounds Great! =D I have added this to my list of reading..
Have you read Georgette Heyer? I recently purchased The Grand Sophy and it's great!
~EvieEvangelinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06946413686778364463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6648706431833666913.post-8270763232236069662015-08-09T23:09:37.678-06:002015-08-09T23:09:37.678-06:00Oh, you're doing this too! (Just because I ...Oh, you're doing this too! (Just because I 'heard' saw yesterday that Amy did as well.) (Haha, I sound like Mrs Bennet. Have you HEARD?!!)

I'm reading 'A Distant Melody' at the moment and I have read 'Wings of a Nightingale', and so far I really like Sarah Sundin's style (because I'm a HUGE 40's-era-fan. All the references such as Glenn Miller and so on, make me squeal.) Although, as you said, there are some things that annoy me. Mainly lack of communication on the girls part, and being-too-fond-of-legs-and-all-that-ewww from the guy's part. :-)

But I think Sarah Sundin can really pull of mushy romances adorably. :-) So I think I'll really want to try this one, especially now you say it was your favourite of hers. :-)

Thanks for the review!

~ NaomiNaomi Pittshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13932777444665441104noreply@blogger.com
